Step 2. Let x/4 be one-forth of the his age.

Step 3. Then x%2F4-5=12 since five less than one fourth of his age is 12.

Step 4. Add 5 to both sides of the equation

x%2F4-5%2B5=12%2B5

x%2F4=17
Step 5. Multiply 4 to both sides of the equation

4x%2F4=4%2A17

x=68

Step 6. ANSWER: The age of Mr Escalate is 68 years old.
