Step 1. Let x be the age of Mr. Escalate

Step 2. Let x/4 be one-forth of the his age.

Step 3. Then since five less than one fourth of his age is 12.

Step 4. Add 5 to both sides of the equation

Step 5. Multiply 4 to both sides of the equation

Step 6. ANSWER: The age of Mr Escalate is 68 years old.
