Caridad is 6 years older than her sister. Four years ago she was 4 times as old as her sister. How old is Caridad now?

Step 1. Let x be age of Caridad's sister

Step 2. Let x+6 be the age of Caridad.

Step 3. Let x+6-4=x+2 be the age of Caridad four years ago.

Step 4. Let x-4 be the age if Caridad's sister four years ago.

Step 5. Then x+2=4(x-4) since four years ago Caridad was 4 times as old as her sister

Step 6. Solving the equation in Step 5 yields the following steps

Add 16-x to both sides of the equation

Divide by 3 to both sides of the equation

Then Now four years ago 12-4=4*(6-4) which is a true statement.

Step 7. ANSWER: Caridad is 12 years old.
