Answer by pwac(253)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Tom is x years old
Jane is 2x years old
so in 8 years time they will be
x+8 and 2x+8, added together will be 70 years old,so:
x+8+2x+8=70
3x+16=70 subtract 16 from both sides
3x=54 divide both sides by 3
x=18
so Tom is 18 yrs now and
Jane is 36
