Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let c = C's age now
let s = S's age now
:
write an equation for each statement
:
"The sum of Sonny's and Cely's ages is 81."
c + s = 81
:
" Three years ago, Sonny's age is Cely's age now."
s - 3 = c
substitute (s-3) for c in the 1st equation. find s:
(s - 3) + s = 81
2s - 3 = 81
2s = 81 + 3
2s = 84
s =
s = 42 is S's age now
then
c + 42 = 81
c = 81 - 42
c = 39 is C's age now
:
How old will they be 2 years from now?
Add 2 yrs to their present ages and you have it
