Question 173740: Kaylee is fifty-five years older than Justin. (K=J+55) The sum of the ages of Kaylee and Justin is one hundred one. How did I solve this problem?
Answer by Mathtut(3670) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
well you got started right but it is also true that K+J=101
:where Kaylee's and Justin's age are K and J respectively
:
K=J+55....eq 1
K+J=101...eq 2
:
we have 2 equations with 2 unknowns
:
take K's value in eq 1 and plug it into eq 2
:
J+55+J=101
:
2J=46
:
Justin's age
:
Kaylee's age
