Let M be the Mavis age.

Then the Eunice age is 3M, according t the problem.


Next, from the problem, we have this equation

    M + 3M = 60.


It gives

     4M   = 60,  M = 60/4 = 15.


ANSWER.  Mavis is 15 years old; Eunice is 3*15 = 45 years old.
