Find Amy’s age.

Amy = x


Amy's mother = 6x

    6x - 2 = 8*(x-2)


Simplify and find x


    6x - 2 = 8x - 16

    16 - 2 = 8x - 6x

       14  =    2x

        x  =    14/2 = 7.


ANSWER.  Amy is 7 years old.  Her mother is  6*7 = 42 years old.
