The problem is so easy to solve mentally in a few seconds, I'm not sure what the instructions are asking you to do. Maybe something like this:

100 and 200 years would make a total of 300 -- too much.
80 and 160 years would make a total of 240 -- not enough.

Then continue with another guess for the ages with the smaller age something greater than 80... and continue until you find the correct ages.
