My father’s age 5 years ago plus twice my age now gives 65. My age 5 years ago plus three times my father’s age now gives 130. What is my father’s age.
Father is NOT 38 years-old, so:
Let father's age be F, and mine, M
We then get: F - 5 + 2M = 65______F + 2M = 70 ----- eq (i)
Also, M - 5 + 3F = 130_____M = 135 - 3F ----- eq (ii)
F + 2(135 - 3F) = 70 ------ Substituting 135 - 3F for M in eq (i)
F + 270 - 6F = 70
- 5F = - 200
