I came to bring you the correct solution.
x Jocelyn
y Joseph
Equations (written correctly)
x + y = 40, (1)
y + 5 = 2x (2)
From equation (1), express y = 40-x and plug it into the second equation
40 - x + 5 = 2x.
You will get then
45 = 2x + x
45 = 3x
x = 45/3 = 15.
ANSWER. Jocelyn is 15 years old. Joseph is y = 40-x = 40-15 = 25 years old.
Solved.
