Sara's age = x

James' age = (x+27).


In 5 years

    ((x+27) + 5) = 4(x+5).


Simplify and solve


    x + 32 = 4x + 20

    32 - 20 = 4x - x

       12   = 3x

        x   = 12/3 = 4.


ANSWER.  Sara is 4 years old.  James is  4 + 27 = 31 years old.
