.

Let x be the measure of the smaller angle.

Then the measure of the larger angle is 2x-9 degrees.

The sum of the measures is 90 degrees, since the angles are complementary.

    x + (2x-9) = 90  degrees.

Simplify and find x

    3x = 90 + 9

    3x = 99

     x = 99/3 = 33.

ANSWER. The smaller angle is 33 degrees.

         The larger angle is 2*33-9 = 57 degrees.
