Sherry is half as old as her mother. Twelve years ago, she was one third of her mother’s age. Find their ages
now.

Let Sherry's age be S
Then mother's is: 2S
We then get: 2S - 12 = 3(S - 12)
2S - 12 = 3S - 36
2S - 3S = - 36 + 12
- S = - 24
Sherry's age, or
