Tara is two years older than Ashley.
Let Ashley,s age be x
Then Tara's age will be (x+2) years
4 years ago
Ashley's age = (x-4)years
4 years hence
Tara's age = (x+2)+4= (x+8)years

In 4 years from now, Tara will be twice as old as Ashley was 4 years ago.
(x+8) = 2(x-4)
x+8 =2x-8
x=16
you calculate Tara's present age.

Tara is two years older than Ashley

Let Ashley's age be x.

Then Tara's age will be 2+x.

4 years ago

Ashley's age = (x-4)

4 years hence

Tara's age = 4+2+x = 6+x

In 4 years from now,Tara will be twice as old as Ashley was 4 years ago

6+x = 2(x-4)

Multiply parenthesis by 2

6+x = 2x-8

Move terms

x-2x = -8-6

Collect the like terms & calculate the difference

-x = -14

Change the signs on both sides of the equation

x = 14

So Ashley's present age is 14 and Tara's is 16 years.
