a man is older than his wife by 3 years.
x = man's present age
wife is 5 yrs younger therefore:
(x-5) = wife's age
:
5 years ago the ratio of their age is 4:3,
=
:
=
cross multiply
4(x-10) = 3(x-5)
4x - 40 = 3x - 15
4x - 3x = -15 + 40
x = 25 is the mans age
then obviously
20 = the wife's age

find the percentage of their age
* 100 = 80% is the wife's percentage of the man's age
or
= .25, man is 25% older than the wife

I don't know what you mean by "percentage of their ages", so I will ignore that....
The difference in their ages is 3 years.
When the ratio of their ages was 4:3, their ages had to be 12 and 9.
(When the ratio of their ages was 4:3, their ages were 4x and 3x; the difference is x. But we know the difference is 3; so their ages were 4x=12 and 3x=9.)
It was 5 years ago that the ratio of their ages was 4:3; that means their ages now are 12+5=17 and 9+5=14.
