Catherine is x and Bob is 2x
x-8 for C and Bob is 2x-8
4(x-8)=2x-8
4x-32=2x-8
2x=24
x=12
So Catherine is 12 now and Bob is 24. Her year of birth is the year current in this question minus 12.
eight years ago, she was 4 and Bob was 16.
