Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the number be x and x + 1.

if the sume of their ages is 25, then x + x + 1 = 25.

combine like terms to get 2x + 1 = 25

subtract 1 frm both sides of this equation to get 2x = 24

solve for x to get x = 12

their ages are 12 and 13.

the sum of their ages is 25.

solution looks good.

the age of the younger friend is 12.
