Question 1137392: Robert plays shortstop for the littleville baseball team. He is an excellent base runner. He is successful in stealing second base 90% of the time and successful stealing third third base 74% of the time. He attempted to steal second 18 times and third 8 times last year. What fraction of his attempts failed?
Answer by VFBundy(438)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Stealing 2nd base (fails) = 0.10 * 18 = 1.8
Stealing 3rd base (fails) = 0.26 * 8 = 2.08

Fraction failed = (1.8 + 2.08)/(18 + 8) = 3.88/26 = 0.1492 or 14.92% fail rate.
