then x + 25 = the mother's current age, because the mother was 25 when the daughter was born.
the mother's current age is 10 more than 4 times the daughter's age.
formula for that is x + 25 = 10 + 4 * x.
subtract x from both sides of that equation and subtract 10 from both sides of that equation to get x + 25 - x - 10 = 10 + 4 * x - x - 10
combine like terms to get 15 = 3 * x
solve for x to get x = 15 / 3 = 5
the daughter's current age is 5.
the mother's current age is 5 + 25 = 30
the mother's current age of 30 is equal to 10 + 4 times the daugher's current age = 10 + 4 * 5 = 30.
