Question 1130390: A man is 24 older than his son.Eight years ago, he was twice as old as his son. Calculate the present age the father and son
Answer by math_helper(2461)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
M = man's age
S = son's age

M = S+24     (1)
M-8 = 2(S-8) (2)

Substituting RHS of (1) into LHS of (2):
(S+24)-8 = 2(S-8)
Solve for S: S=32 --> M=56
--
Ans: The man is 56 years old, and the son is 32 years old
--
Check: 56 = 32+24 ✓
56 - 8 = 48 and 2(32-8) = 2(24) = 48 ✓
