Question 1126053: Hi!
I'm a little confused on this algebra word problem:
One fifth of a man's age 6 years ago equals one seventh of his age 10 years hence. How old is he now?
Is the equation 1/5x-6=1/7x+10 if X equals the man's age? If that is not the equation, could you explain how to get the equation and also how to solve the equation?
Thank you so much!

One fifth of a man's age 6 years ago equals one seventh of his age 10 years hence. How old is he now?
:
this is the equation, just remember the brackets
(x-6) = (x+10)
Get rid of the denominators, multiply both sides by 35
7(x-6) = 5(x+10)
distribute
7x - 42 = 5x + 50
7x - 5x = 50 + 42
2x = 92
x = 92/2
x = 46 yr old now
:
:
check
(46-6) = (46+10)
(40) = (56)
8 = 8
