Since you are now 2/5 your father's age, let 2x be your age and 5x be your father's age. Then the difference in your ages is 5x-2x=3x.

But if you were 3 when your father was 30, then the difference in your ages is 27 years.

So 3x = 27 --> x = 9.

So your age now is 2x = 18 (and your father's age is 5x=45).

Answer: you are now 18.

Standard algebra solution is THIS: 

The difference between your age and your father's age is  30-3 = 27 years, and

it means that your father is always 27 years older than you.


Let x be your age. Then your father's age is (x+27).


Then the condition says 


x = ,    or

5x = 2*(x+27),

5x = 2x + 2*27,

5x - 2x = 54  ====>  3x = 54  ====>  x =  = 18.


Answer.  You are 18 years old now.
