Ravi is now twice as old as Janet.

R = 2∙J

6 years ago he [Ravi] was 8 years older than Janet.

R-6 = (J-6)+8

How old is Ravi?

Simplify that, then substitute 2∙J for R.  Solve for J.  
Then substitute in R = 2∙J.  If you have trouble, tell
