Let Ed's brother age be x
Let Ed's age be 8+x
x+8+x=38
2x+8=38
2x=38-8
2x=30
divide both sides by 2
2x/2=30/2
x=15
therefore Ed's brother is 15 years old now
Ed's age=38-15=23 years
