let x = the age of khadijah today.
1 year from now, khadijah will be x + 1 years old.
1 year from now, she will be twice as old as she was 10 years ago.
10 years ago, she was x - 10 years old.
your equation is x+1 = 2 * (x-10)
simplify to get x+1 = 2x - 20
add 20 both sides and subtract x from both sides of this equation to get:
21 = x
that's the age of khadijah today.
1 year from now she will be 22.
10 years ago she was 11.
22 is equal to 2 * 11.
this confirms that 1 year from now she will be twice as old as she was 10 years ago.
