" Jack is three years younger than his brother Bob"
j = b - 3
b = j + 3
"and five years older than his sister Sara."
j = s + 5
s = j - 5
" The sum of their ages is 43."
j + b + s = 43
replace b and s
j + j+3) + (j-5) = 43
3j - 2 = 45
3j = 43 + 2
3j = 45
j = 45/3
j = 15 yrs is Jack's age
then
b = 15 + 3
b = 18 yrs is Bob's
and
s = 15 - 5
s = 10 yrs is Sara's
