Let the age of sister be x,
then,brother's age=x+5

x+x+5=57
2x+5=57
2x=52
x=26
Since, sister's age=26yrs
brother's age=26+5=31yrs

Solution (Two equation approach) 

B + S = 57,   (1)
B - S =  5.   (2)

Add the equations (1) and (2). You will get

2B = 57 + 5 = 62.

Hence, B =  = 31.

Thus the brother's age is 31.

Then the sister is 31-5 = 26 years old.
