"Harry is 2 years younger than Tommy. 10 years ago, Tommy was twice as old as Harry. Find their present ages."
---------
H = T - 2
T-10 = 2(H-10)
--------------------------
Substitute for "H" and solve for "T"::
T-10 = 2(T-2) - 2*10
--------
T-10 = 2T-4 - 20
-----
T = -10 + 24
Tommy = 14 yrs
--------------
Solve for "H":
H = T-2
Harry = 14-2 = 12 yrs
----------------
Cheers,
Stan H.
