Let the number be x. Then
Add 2:x+2
Multiply times 4: 4(x+2)
Subtract 3: 4(x+2)-3
Divide by 5, you get 9:
[4(x+2)-3]/5 = 9
Now just work your calculator
(4x+8-3)/5 = 9
4x+5/5 = 9
4x+5 = 45
4x = 40
x = 10
