Cindy's age = C
Sally's age = S
C - 8 = 2(S - 8)
C = S + 5
Plug in the second equation into the first.
S + 5 - 8 = 2S - 16
S - 3 = 2S - 16
13 = S
Sally is 13 and Cindy is 18.
