now:
K = 6C
next year:
K+1 = 2(C+1)
K+1 = 2C+2
Substitute for K:
6C+1 = 2C+2
4C = 1
C = 1/4 which equals 3 months
Kathy is 6*3 18 months old
------------------------
Check: Next year (in months, 1 year = 12 months)
K+12 = 2(C+12)
18+12 = 2(3+12)
30 = 6+24 = 30 Correct, next year K will be 30/12 = 2 1/2 years old and the cat will be 3+12 = 15 months old, 15/12 = 1 year and 3 months old.
