A man is 3 times as old as his son. 5 years ago, he was 4 times as old as his son. Find their present ages.

f = 3s
f-5 = 4(s-5)
------
Substitute for "f" and solve for "s"::
3s-5 = 4s-20
s = 15 yrs (son's age)
f = 3s = 45 yrs (father's age)
