:
Five years ago shivani was three times as old as shashi.
x -5 = 3(y-5)
x - 5 = 3y - 15
x = 3y - 15 + 5
x = 3y - 10
:
Ten years later shivani would be twice as old as shashi
x + 10 = 2(y + 10)
x + 10 = 2y + 20
x = 2y + 20 - 10
x = 2y + 10
:
x = x, therefore we can write the equation
3y - 10 = 2y + 10
3y - 2y = 10 + 10
y = 20 yrs is Shashi's age
