Sum of two students is 24
x + y = 24......(1)
the difference between ages is 8.
x - y = 8.......(2)
Simultaneous Equations:
x + y = 24........(1)
x - y = 8.........(2)
Add Eq(1) + Eq(2)
2x = 32
x = 16
Substitute x = 16 into Eq(1)
x + y = 24
16 + y = 24
y = 24 - 16
y = 8
James is 16 years old
Andy is 8 years old.
