Dave has 15 coins that are nickels and quarters. He has four times as many nickels as quarters. How many of each coin does he have?

Answer by addingup(3677)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
n+q = 15 (1)
n = 4q substitute for n in equation (1)
4q+q = 15
5q = 15
q = 3 He has 3 quarters. And the problem says he has 4 times more nickels:
n = 3(4)= 12
And 3+12 = 15, just like the problem says.
