Call Charlotte and Edgar's ages be c and e. Then we have
c + e = 22
c = 2e + 1
Now substitute and get
2e + 1 + e = 22
3e + 1 = 22
3e = 21
e = 7 (Edgar)
so that
c = 15 (Charlotte)
