The answer is suppose to equal ( 27,12)
A= Arlene x=Sharon
This is what I did:
A=15+x
3=(2a+x)
3=( 2(15+x)+x)
3=30+2x
3-30=2x
-27/2=x
-13.5=x

Arlene is 15 years older than Sharon. To make them equal we will add 15 to Sharon:
A = S+15 We'll use this value for A next:
A+3 = 2(S+3) Substitute for A:
S+15+3 = 2(S+3) Simplify:
S+18 = 2S+6 Subtract 6 on left and S on right:
12 = S Sharon is 12 and Arlene:
12+15 = 27
