Brothers Sam and Josh are both four less than triple their sisters age.
the sum of their ages is 48, how old is each boy?
:
Let s = the sisters age
Sam & Josh must be twins (the same age) = (3s - 4)
:
The sum of their ages is 48
(3s-4) + (3s-4) + s = 48
6s - 8 + s = 48
6s + s = 48 + 8
7s = 56
s = 56/7
s = 8 years old is the sister
then
3(8) - 4 = 20 yrs is Sam and Josh's ages
:'
You can see their ages add up to 48
