Answer by macston(5194)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
S=son's age; L=Liz's age=2.5S
.
(S-8)+(L-8)=47
S+L-16=47
S+L=63
The sum of their ages now is 63.
.
S+L=63
S+2.5S=63
3.5S=63
S=18
ANSWER 1: Son is 18 years old.
.
L=2.5S=2.5(18)=45
Liz is 45 years old.
.
CHECK:
(S-8)+(L-8)=47
(18-8)+45-8)=47
10+37=47
47=47
