the ratio of two student is 3:2 .One student is 5 years older than the other. Find the age of the youngest student.
:
let x = the multiplier
then
3x = age of the older student
2x = age of the youngest
:
"One student is 5 years older than the other."
3x = 2x + 5
3x - 2x = 5
x = 5 is the multiplier
therefore
2(5) = 10 yrs is the age of the youngest
:
:
Check this, oldest 3(5) = 15
15:10 = 3:2
