AGES OF FATHER AND HIS SON ARE IN RATIO OF 10:3
let x = the multiplier
then
10x = the father's age
3x = the son's

EIGHT YEARS AFTER THEIR AGES WOULD BE IN THE RATIO 12:5

Cross multiply
5(10x+8) = 12(3x+8)
50x + 40 = 36x + 96
50x - 36x = 96 - 40
14x = 56
x = 56/14
x = 4 is the multiplier
