Question 269562: Two angles are complementary and the ratio of their measures is 7:2. What are the angle measures?

Two angles are said to be complimentary if they add up to 90. If x is the first angle and y is its complement then x+y=90.
Also, if their ratio is 7:2, then x/y=7/2.
x/y=7/2
2x=7y
x=(7/2)y
Now substitute this in the first equation.
(7/2)y+y=90
(7/2)y+(2/2)y=90
(9/2)y=90
9y=180
y=20
so x=90-y, or 90-20.
x=70
So angles are 70 degrees and 20 degrees.
