Question 225955: Set D={Lower cost, Educational, Less time to see the sights, Can visit relatives along the way}
Set F= {Higher cost, Educational, More time to see the sights, Cannot visit relatives along the way}
Set U={Higher cost, Educational, More time to see the sights, Cannot visit relatives along the way, Lower cost, Less time to see the sights, Can visit relatives along the way}
Find the set of elements common to both sets:
F' and D'
The book has the answer being an empty set and I am not sure why. Can you explain why to me please?
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
F' = Set of everything in U but NOT in F = {Lower cost, Less time to see the sights, Can visit relatives along the way}
D' = Set of everything in U but NOT in D = {Higher cost, More time to see the sights, Cannot visit relatives along the way, Less time to see the sights}
Now just look for the common elements in both sets. Since there are no common elements, this means that the result of the intersection between these sets is the empty set.
See this solver for more practice on set operations.
