Question 70765: I can understand how to solve an equation by first multiplying by a common denominator as in this example:
h/2 + h/3 = 10
3h/6 + 2h/6 = 10
5h/6 = 10
5h = 10 x 6
h = 60/5
h = 12
however, I'm not sure how to first apply a common denominator in the following equation:
m/2 - 3 = 4

Question 71135: This is actually about probability,but it uses fractions.I have four questions I need help with.The first one is,Find the probability that the name of a month of the year,chosen at random,begins with a consonant.
9 months begin with consonants and 3 with vowels. Therefore, the probability of choosing a month that begins with a consonant is 9/12=3/4=75%
The next one is,A professional basketball player has scored on 105 out of 150 free throw attempts.What is the experimental probability of scoring on a free throw?
That's just 105/150=7/10=70%
Third is,A card is drawn from a standard deck of cards.What is the probability that the card is an ace or a red card?
There are 4 Aces in a deck of cards. There are 26 red cards(13 hearts and 13 diamonds). But you must subtract the Ace of Diamonds and the Ace of Hearts or you'll overcount.
(4/52)+(26/52)-(2/52)= 7/13 or about 53.8%
And the last question is,A bag of candy has 6 orange pieces,8 green pieces,and 11 red pieces.What is the probability that the first piece of candy you draw at random out of the bag is red or green?Thank you to whoever helps me.
There are 25 total candies with 11 red and 8 green. 19/25
