Your equation is a bit hard to decipher (you should use parentheses so that we can understand exactly what goes in your numerators and denominators) but having said that, I think you meant to write %285%2F8%29x%2B%281%2F16%29x=5%2F16%2Bx

Either way, with rational expressions, you need to find the Lowest Common Denominator.

You have denominators of 8, 16, and 1 (the 1 is the understood denominator under the x on the right side of the equation)

So, your LCD here is 16

%285%2F8%29%282%2F2%29x%2B%281%2F16%29x=5%2F16%2Bx%2816%2F16%29

%2810%2F16%29x%2B%281%2F16%29x-%2816%2F16%29x=5%2F16

%28%2810+%2B+1+-+16%29x%29%2F16=5%2F16
