x + y = 123
x= 2y

(x, y) = (82, 41)

The value of x is 82.

For tutor @CubeyThePenguin....

You clearly know how to solve a lot of these problems; it is likely that the student submitting the question does not.

Your responses are rarely useful to a student who is trying to learn how to work the problems himself.

Take the time to show more steps and explain what you are doing. The student can learn from that; he won't learn much if you skip a lot of steps and basically just show the answer without giving the student a chance to learn from your response.

Also, you seem to be in a race to see how many posts you can respond to. In several of your posts you misread what the question is asking, or provide responses which have nothing to do with the question that is asked.

Your value as a tutor on this forum comes from how well and carefully you explain problems -- not from how many posts you supply responses to.
