Question 873248: Find the value of z in the following system:
2x+4y +z= 6
x+3y+z= 4
2x-2y-z= 4

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2 x + 4 y + 1 z = 6 -------------- 1
1 x + 3 y 1 z = 4 -------------- 2
2 x + -2 y + -1 z = 4 -------------- 3

consider equation 1 &2 Eliminate y
Multiply 1 by -3 -5
Multiply 2 by 4 4
we get
-6 x + -12 y + -3 z = -18
4 x + 12 y + 4 z = 16
Add the two
-2 x + 0 y + 1 z = -2 ------------- 4
consider equation 2 & 3 Eliminate y
Multiply 2 by 2
Multiply 3 by 3
we get
2 x + 6 y + 2 z = 8
6 x + -6 y + -3 z = 12
Add the two
8 x + 0 y + -1 z = 20 -------------5 5
Consider (4) & (5) Eliminate x
Multiply 4 by 4
Multiply (5) by 1
we get
-8 x + 4 z = -8
8 x + -1 z = 20
Add the two
0 x + 3 z = 12
/ 3
z = 4
