determine the number and type of solutions for 4x^2-8x+4=0
----
a = 4
b =-8
c = 4
-----
b^2 - 4ac = 64-4*4*4 = 0
-----
Ans: 2 equal Real Number solutions.

4x^2-8x+4=0

The nature of roots depend on b^2-4ac the discriminant
a=4,b=-8,c=4
b^2-4ac
(-8)^2-4(4)(4)
64-64=0
Since b^2-4ac=0 The roots are real and equal
