Hello,
I'm assuming this problem is written as:
(1/2)y+4=11
If so, then multiply by 2 to get:
y+8=22
Subtract 8:
y=14
Make sense?

in solving equations like these, the #1 rule is to get the variable by itself.
1/2y+4=11 to get y by self, first move all numbers to one side and variables to the other. when you move a number from one side, also do it to the other side, so the equation will be equal. think of this equation as a scale the looks like this

1/2y + 4 = 11 subtract 4 from both sides and get 1/2y+=7
next divide 1/2 from both sides which is basically 7*2 (dividing fraction is by multiplying by fraction's reciprocal.) so 7*2 =14 ===> 1y=14.
since 1y=y, y=14
so the solution is 14
IMPORTANT: After you find the solution don't forget to check!!!!!!!!!!
The way you check is by plugging the solution in the y value
so 1/2(14)+4=11 ===> 7+4=11 ===> 11=11, because both solutions are equal, it is correct.
